Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for clients through personalized care, skill development, and fostering independence. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including residential homes and community environments, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Responsibilities
Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any adverse reactions.
Take and record vital signs to ensure clients' health is maintained.
Provide meal preparation and assist with feeding when necessary.
Engage clients in social activities and promote community involvement.
Support individuals with autism through tailored programs that encourage communication and social skills.
Perform heavy lifting as required to assist clients with mobility or transfers.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
Document client progress and report any changes in behavior or health to supervisors.
Skills
Proficiency in medication administration and understanding of medical protocols.
Ability to take vital signs accurately and respond appropriately to health concerns.
Experience in providing care for individuals with disabilities or senior care settings.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members.
Physical capability to perform heavy lifting and assist clients with mobility needs.
Knowledge of meal preparation techniques that accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences.
Previous experience working in nursing homes or similar environments is a plus.
